  • Overview

Van Phuc Silk Village is situated on the banks of Nhue Thi River, near Ha Dong city. The village has been much well known for its traditional sericulture, weaving, and silk products. Tourists coming here are lured by various beautiful shirts, crafts, ties, dresses and many other things made of silk available in the village. What is special is that the silk is made by very simple looms, which is the genuinely traditional Vietnamese way of making silk. In the bygone era wearing a Non (conical hats made from palm leaves) was reserved for queens and princesses but now it is worn by countless Vietnamese. Chuong Village in Phuong Trung Commune, Thanh Oai District, near Hanoi is known nationwide as the home for making this iconic Vietnamese cultural symbol. Chuong Village’s Non is thick, firm and durable and the market in the village which operates 6 times a month attracts a great number of sellers and buyers who are interested in the hat. NON has become an inseparable multi-purpose item for Vietnamese women. It is used as a shield to protect them from sun and rain, a glass to get water when they are thirsty, a fan when they are hot, and a basket when they have nothing else with them to carry things.
