Meet your guide & driver at hotel then head 10 km northeast to Bat Trang Village. The 500 year-old village is famous for producing the best pottery in Vietnam and art produced here is shipped all over the world. We’ll see the village’s Temple first then walk down the narrow roads to the house/workshop where we will have a chance to meet one of the famous artists of Bat Trang and see his artworks in all their stages. Following a class on throwing a pot on a potter’s wheel we will head to the market to see all of the different beautiful ceramics by the village’scrafsmanship. We return to the city for lunch.
This afternoon we proceed to But Thap pagoda that dates back 1258. The site is well-known for its rare woodcarvings and sculptures, including the statue of Buddha with thousand hands and thousand eyes. Our final visit is to Dong Ho. The village is famous for its folk paintings drawn on Dzo paper. The colors are completely natural, taken from half-baked bricks, tree leaves, powder of grinded burned tree – roots and back- ground made from a mixture of lime and resin. Themes are purely folkloric: Chicken family, frog teacher, pig family, wrestling festival, and so on. So no doubt
the village’s trade is unique and well worth our one or two hours. Afterwards we return to Hanoi.
